This Site is owned and operated by Rational Magic Pty Ltd – River City Sewing Machine Centre. This Site is an ecommerce website. By using this Site, you indicate that you have read and understand these Terms and Conditions and agree to abide by them at all times.
All content published and made available on our Site is the property of Rational Magic Pty Ltd – River City Sewing Machine Centre and the Site’s creators. This includes, but is not limited to images, text, logos, documents, downloadable files and anything that contributes to the composition of our Site.
When you create an account on our Site, you agree to the following: 1. You are solely responsible for your account and the security and privacy of your account, including passwords or sensitive information attached to that account; and 2. All personal information you provide to us through your account is up to date, accurate, and truthful and that you will update your personal information if it changes. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you are using our Site illegally or if you violate these Terms and Conditions.
Sale of Goods And Services
These Terms and Conditions govern the sale of goods and services available on our Site.

– Quilting & Sewing Supplies;
– Notions & Haberdashery;
– Embroidery Products;
– Sewing Furniture; and
– Long Arm Quilting Machines and Supplies.
The following services are available on our Site:
– Classes & Events; and
– Machine Repairs & Servicing.
The services will be paid for in full upon the completion of the service.
These Terms and Conditions apply to all the goods and services that are displayed on our Site at the time you access it. This includes all products listed as being out of stock. All information, descriptions, or images that we provide about our goods and services are as accurate as possible. However, we are not legally bound by such information, descriptions, or images as we cannot guarantee the accuracy of all goods and services we provide. You agree to purchase goods and services from our Site at your own risk.
We reserve the right to modify, reject or cancel your order whenever it becomes necessary. If we cancel your order and have already processed your payment, we will give you a refund equal to the amount you paid. You agree that it is your responsibility to monitor your payment instrument to verify receipt of any refund.
Third Party Goods and Services
Our Site may offer goods and services from third parties. We cannot guarantee the quality or accuracy of goods and services made available by third parties on our Site.
Your subscription does not automatically renew. You will be notified before your next payment is due and must authorise that payment in order for your subscription to continue.

When you provide us with your payment information, you authorise our use of and access to the payment instrument you have chosen to use. By providing us with your payment information, you authorise us to charge the amount due to this payment instrument.
If we believe your payment has violated any law or these Terms and Conditions, we reserve the right to cancel or reverse your transaction.
Shipping and Delivery
All orders placed either online at our website or in-store via phone or email which opt for Australia Post Services are not insured. Whilst we take all reasonable care in packaging your item for safe delivery, we cannot offer insurance.
Most orders will be shipped within 7 days of receipt. If there are extended delays our team will contact you to advise.
Any delivery times indicated should be considered a guideline. As there are frequent delays in transport and shipping, we cannot guarantee delivery dates and times for any items shipped by our store.
When you purchase goods from our Site, the goods will be delivered through one of the following methods:
– Standard delivery by post. Delivery takes 5 – 7 business days.; or
– Australia Post Express Post. Delivery takes approx 5-7 days.
Delivery will take place as soon as reasonably possible, depending on the delivery method selected. Delivery times may vary due to unforseen circumstances. Please note that delivery times do not include weekends and public holidays.
You will be required to pay delivery charges in addition to the price for the goods you purchase.
You are required to provide us with a complete and accurate delivery address, including the name of
the recipient. We are not liable for the delivery of your goods to the wrong address or wrong person
as a result of you providing us with inaccurate or incomplete information.
Consumer Protection Law
Where the Australian Consumer Law, Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, or any other consumer protection legislation in your jurisdiction applies and cannot be excluded, these Terms and Conditions will not limit your legal rights and remedies under that legislation. These Terms and Conditions will be read subject to the mandatory provisions of that legislation. If there is a conflict between these Terms and Conditions and that legislation, the mandatory provisions of the
legislation will apply.

Our Site contains links to third party websites or services that we do not own or control. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of any third party website or service linked to on our Site. It is your responsibility to read the terms and conditions and privacy policies of these third party websites before using these sites.
Limitation of Liability
Rational Magic Pty Ltd – River City Sewing Machine Centre and our directors, officers, agents, employees, subsidiaries, and affiliates will not be liable for any actions, claims, losses, damages, liabilities and expenses including legal fees from your use of the Site.
Except where prohibited by law, by using this Site you indemnify and hold harmless Rational Magic Pty Ltd – River City Sewing Machine Centre and our directors, officers, agents, employees, subsidiaries, and affiliates from any actions, claims, losses, damages, liabilities and expenses including legal fees arising out of your use of our Site or your violation of these Terms and Conditions.
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of Queensland.
If at any time any of the provisions set forth in these Terms and Conditions are found to be inconsistent or invalid under applicable laws, those provisions will be deemed void and will be removed from these Terms and Conditions. All other provisions will not be affected by the removal and the rest of these Terms and Conditions will still be considered valid.
These Terms and Conditions may be amended from time to time in order to maintain compliance with the law and to reflect any changes to the way we operate our Site and the way we expect users to behave on our Site. We will notify users by email of changes to these Terms and Conditions or post a notice on our Site.

Errors & Omissons
We reserve the right to withdraw an item from sale should an error or omission occur with online pricing or information.
Gift Cards & Gift Vouchers
All River City Gift Cards or River City Gift Vouchers issued by River City Sewing Machine Centre have an expiry date of 3 years from the date of issue and this will be indicated on the Gift Card or Gift Voucher. Expired cards will not be reissued.
All Gift Cards or Gift Vouchers issued by River City Sewing Machine Centre are non-refundable and are not redeemable for cash. Lost cards will not be reissued.
As a family owned business, River City Sewing Machine Centre we are proud to stock a wide range of products for you and your creative projects. To enable us to showcase the vast array of products, parts and accessories available for all of our products, brands and machines, we do not carry all these items as in-store stock items. Some of these items are available on order from our suppliers. Whilst we are making every effort to accurately provide details at our online store, there may be occasions when the product you ordered is out of stock. If this is the case, one of our team will contact you to advise details of next availability from our suppliers so that you are given the opportunity to continue with your order. If you decide not to wait for delivery of your order you will be of course offered a refund of your purchase price.
Machine Service & Repairs
All sewing machines, sewing and embroidery machines, multi-needle embroidery machines, quilting machines less than 18″ throat space service & repairs are conducted on-site at our store. In some instances machines are returned to the manufacturer for investigation and repair.
Completed repairs are held for a maximum of 60 days only unless otherwise arranged with River City Sewing Machine Centre management.
River City Sewing Machine Centre reserves the right to recover all outstanding funds relating to repairs made to unclaimed sewing equipment:
These right include but are not limited to
a) selling the unclaimed sewing equipment;
b) engaging collection agents.
New Machine Warranty ( All Brands)
We will honour all warranty work for machines purchased at River City Sewing Machine Centre during the period of your new machine warranty provided:
- You are the first owner of the machine,
- You can provide proof of purchase of your machine
Please note that some parts and consumables are not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty and you should refer to your warranty card that was provided at the time of your new machine purchase. Items and parts required to complete the repair to your machine that are not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty will be charged to you and must be paid in full before the machine is released.
Extended Warranty – (where applicable)
Please refer to your warranty documentation for items covered by the manufacturer under their extended warranty if it is applicable to your machine – generally, these include some parts and mechanical items. All repairs conducted under your machines extended warranty will be charged as per our Fix Only Rates, as labour costs are not covered as part of these extended warranty arrangements plus costs of any parts not covered under warranty.
Warranty repairs for machines not purchased at River City Sewing Machine Centre
We would recommend that you return your machine to the place of purchase for the completion of your warranty repair. The dealer where you purchased your machine is responsible for warranty repairs for all machines that they sell.
If you would prefer our store to conduct your warranty repairs, we can do so, however, you will be charged as per our Fix Only Rates plus any additional costs of freight etc for the supply of parts for the completion of your warranty repair plus any parts or items not covered under the warranty terms.
Brother International (Australia) Pty Ltd – Warranty Service Centre
Please refer to your warranty documentation for items covered by the manufacturer under their warranty if it is applicable to your machine – generally, these include some parts and mechanical items. All warranty repairs for Brother Machines referred to our store must include proof of purchase information, customers name, address and contact telephone number. This information is a mandatory requirement for Brother International (Australia) Pty Ltd to process the warranty claim.
River City Sewing reserves the right to refuse any machine for warranty repairs should this information not be provided.
Warranty repairs are subject to approval by Brother International (Australia) Pty Ltd. Any items not covered by the warranty approval will be payable by the machine owner. Any disputes relating to the coverage of warranty for your machine should be directed to Brother International (Australia) Pty Ltd.
Onsite Service Requests
Any on-site service requests for any sewing machines, sewing and embroidery machines, multi-needle embroidery machines, quilting machines less than 18″ throat space will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. All onsite service requests will be subject to standard service fees plus parts as required, plus an hourly travelling and on-site fee that is calculated from departure from our store, all time onsite and return to our store.
Proof of Purchase
All return, refund, exchange or repair requests must be accompanied by any one of the following Proof of Purchase documents:
- Original receipt
- Proof of Purchase (included with all online purchases)
- Original Return/Exchange Receipt
Consumer Guarantees & Returns
As a consumer, you are entitled to the benefit of statutory consumer guarantees in respect of items or services purchased from River City Sewing Machine Centre. If you believe an item or service is faulty, not of acceptable quality, does not match the description provided or is not fit for purpose, you may be entitled to a remedy under Australian Consumer Law. However, these consumer guarantees do not apply where the item was damaged to abnormal use or misuse.
Where you believe an item is faulty, it may be necessary for us to send the item to the manufacturer for it to be assessed. In accordance with Australian Law, if the failure is minor, we may repair the item (or, at our discretion, we may replace the item or refund you) within a reasonable time. If the item or service has a major failure, you may reject it and seek a refund or replacement, or you may keep the item and seek compensation for any drop in the value. These consumer guarantees apply to items or services and may be impacted by the type and age and nature of the item.
All sewing machine manufacturers’ warranty information is detailed and included in the packaging of their products or available on the manufacturers website. Please refer to these as they are all very different.
Please choose carefully as we do not offer returns for Change of Mind, including the following:
- You purchased what you asked for but simply changed your mind, found it cheaper somewhere else, decided you did not like the purchase or had no use for it
- Misued a product in any way that caused the problem
- Knew of or were made aware of the faults before you bought the product
- Asked for a service to be done in a certain way against the advice of the business or were unclear about what you wanted
Orders refunded or cancelled
If an order is cancelled prior to shipment or a refund is requested, we will consider that at our discretion. If a refund is agreed by management, a 20% restocking fee will be payable and deducted from any refund owing.
These Special Exceptions do not apply to any returns made in accordance with Consumer Guarantees (see above) or otherwise as required by law.
All Gift Cards/Gift Vouchers or Bonus items attached to the purchased products, or all elements of any bundled items, must also be returned with the original purchase. If not, the value of any such unreturned Gift Card, Gift Voucher, Bonus, or bundled item or utilised portion of any Gift Card or Gift Voucher will be deducted from any refund.

For purchases made online or in-store, River City Sewing Machine Centre will process any approved refund using your original payment method.
You are only eligible to receive a full refund via ZipPay if the goods are faulty and can’t be easily fixed or replaced or are not as described. ZipPay cannot be used for classes or events.
Please choose carefully as we do not offer change of mind exchanges or refunds on technology products if removed from their plastic packaging or plastic seal unless the item is faulty, significantly different from what was shown to you, not doing what it is supposed to do, in breach of manufacturers warranties or consumer guarantees. River City Sewing Machine Centre will , at all times, honour its obligations under the Australian Consumer Law.
Classes & Events
Class & Events Booking Terms and Conditions
Please check class dates and times carefully before booking. No refunds will be made for classes due to “Change of Mind” or “double booking”.
By booking a class you agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions.
- Payment for the class fee is required and payable in full at the time of the booking to secure your place and must be purchased either in-store with our staff or online at our website class booking site (https://bookwhen.com/rivercitysewing) prior to class commencing. Your place is not booked until payment has been received. Regrettably ( even in the case of illness) River City Sewing Machine Centre are not in a position to refund cancellations as we are committed to run the class or event for others who have already bought their supplies and have rostered our instructors or pre-booked visiting teachers to run the class.
- Payment can be made over the phone using credit card facilities if you are unable to visit us in store or book online.
- If you have to cancel your place in one of our classes, we can re-book you into another class at a later date or a store credit will only be assigned to you if you advise our staff no less than 72 hours before the event.
- No refunds or store-credit for no shows or late arrivals, or for cancellations less than 72 hours before the class begins.
- All special events with visiting teachers, no refunds or store credits for cancellations less than 14 days before the event begins.
- All class fees do not include any materials or class kits unless otherwise stated. Requirement lists are items that attendees need to bring to complete the class. All items are available for purchase in-store prior to the commencement of the class unless otherwise stated. Students will be responsible to bring all items on the requirements list to complete the class.
- Occasionally we may have to cancel or postpone a class due to unavoidable circumstances or if a class is undersubscribed. In such a case we will notify all confirmed attendees as soon as possible and class fees will be refunded in the form of a store credit or River City Sewing Gift Card. River City Sewing Machine Centre will not be held liable for any students out of pocket costs for any class it cancels.
- River City Sewing Machine Centre does not accept responsibility for changes in the circumstances of its students.
- Unless otherwise stated, in any classes or events using sewing machines, it is assumed you have a working knowledge of your own machine all the parts required for that class or event. Please ensure that you have your power cord and foot control when you pack your machine and all your items have your name clearly marked on them. River City Sewing Machine Centre will not be held liable for items lost or misplaced in any of its classes.
- Mobile phones are allowed in the classroom but only when turned to silent or vibrate. If you have to take or make a mobile phone call, please leave the classroom to do so that other students can continue their class without distraction.
- No guests or children may accompany students in the classroom at any time – with the exception of Kids Classes. Kid’s classes must have a parent or guardian present at all times.
- All attendees to any event or class are reminded to be respectful of others in the classroom and avoid the use of bad language or lewd comments, loud talking, laughter or continual talking while being instructed, or the general use of bad manners. River City Sewing Machine Centre reserves the right to remove those persons from the classroom if classes or events are being disrupted in this manner.
- All students must abide by Local, State or Federal Government mandated health authority regulations at all times, including and not limited to wearing of masks, social distancing and other health measures as deemed for retail outlets.
These Terms & Conditions have been developed to minimise cancellations so that those who wish to, and are able to attend, are not disadvantaged and enjoy their classroom experience.
